Sampdoria have targeted the signing of Leicester outcast Yohan Benalouane in the January transfer window as a solution to their defensive deficiencies.
Atalanta received €7 million for the 28-year-old centre back in the summer but the switch to England has not worked out as hoped with Benalouane making just four Premier League appearances.
The French-born defender has a contract with the Foxes until 2019 but Sky Sport Italia report that any deal would likely involve an initial six-month loan.
Vincenzo Montella will hope to have some help at the back with Sampdoria currently having the fourth worst defensive record in Serie A.
Benalouane is not the only former Serie A player to be sidelined at Leicester with ex-Napoli midfielder Gokhan Inler struggling for game time.
There were huge expectations for the Switzerland international when he swapped the San Paolo for the King Power Stadium but Foxes coach Claudio Ranieri has only called upon Inler on seven occasions in all competitions.
