The Diavolo’s main objectives ahead of the transfer window opening are centrally-based players in both defence and in midfield, with two players in particular capturing their attention.
Axel Witsel of Zenit has long been a target of the Rossoneri and they are set to step up their pursuit of him once more but they have often been put off the Belgian due to the cost involved.
It is believed he would set the Italian giants back between €25 million and €28m, although Milan are believed to be readying a €23m offer with various bonuses for add-ons in relation to Witsel’s performances.
At the back, Milan are looking for a versatile central defender who could also do a job on the flank if called upon and that has led them to Chelsea stalwart Branislav Ivanovic or Martin Caceres of Juventus, who is also a target for Inter.
Both men would be considerably cheaper than Witsel given that each of their current contracts are set to expire next summer.
