The discontent between Roma coach and captain has increased after an angry Luciano Spalletti sent Francesco Totti home on Sunday ahead of their match with Palermo.

On Saturday, the 2006 World Cup winner provoked the ire of his coach by conducting an interview in which he suggested he would not stay at the club if his lack of playing time continued and insisted he wanted to be shown more respect.

That has not gone down well with Spalletti whatsoever though and at the team hotel on Sunday morning, he pulled aside Totti and told him to leave the group as he would not be part of the squad for tonight’s clash at the Stadio Olimpico against the Rosanero.

An incredulous Totti, who was not expecting it whatsoever, immediately returned to his teammates and informed them of the situation before leaving to return home, with the rest of the squad also shocked at the events which transpired.

The 39-year-old has played just 33 minutes of action under Spalletti since he took over from Rudi Garcia last month and hasn’t started a game yet.
